On September 27th, RTVOD2012 hosted a City Council Candidates' Forum at Louden Nelson Community Center in Santa Cruz to discuss water issues and Measure P.
The following candidates on the November ballot for Santa Cruz City Council have endorsed the right to vote on desal and Yes on Measure P.

* On UCSC Expansion:
Candidates who support City compliance with the Endangered Species Act before approving any water to UCSC are Steve Pleich, Micah Posner, Jake Fusari, and Cece Pinheiro. These candidates agreed with the statement, "It is wise to wait until the City understands how much it will need to reduce its water diversion from local streams before approving more water service for UCSC growth." This reasonable stance means that the question of UCSC growth must wait until fish habitat and drought security issues are resolved.
Running for re-election is Don Lane, who is also a LAFCO Commissioner. Lane has not supported a proposed LAFCO condition that requires the City to comply with the Endangered Species Act to allow adequate stream flows for native salmon before UCSC gets any water for expansion. Lane said, "It is becoming unreasonable to tell UCSC to wait indefinitely.

The Endangered California Red-Legged Frog - The California Red-Legged Frog (Rana draytonii) is unfortunately ranked 4th in the list of America’s Top 10 Most Threatened Frogs! They are currently listed as Federally Threatened, and live in Antonelli Pond which is just across the street from one of the proposed sites for the desal plant.
